Medical Physicist

This position is for a Medical Physicist qualified to work in the field of radiotherapy physics and dosimetry. He/she should be able to work without technical supervision. Daily activities will be primarily associated with direct support of the radiotherapy clinic and quality assurance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Prepare and check external beam treatment plans and beam-on time calculations by computer and manual computations.
2. Prepare and check brachytherapy sealed source treatment plans.
3. Acquire patient measurements necessary to generate treatment plans.
4. Plan, supervise or fabricate patient treatment aids.
5. Conduct weekly patient treatment record reviews.
6. Perform patient dosimetry verification through external dosimeters.
7. Function as Radiation Safety Officer – collaborates with other disciplines departments, and/or facilities to ensure safe effective administration of radiation therapy/or diagnostic radiology.
8. Develops and maintains a quality assurance program for physics.
9. Promote positive customer service with internal and external customers.
10. Quality control of radio therapeutic equipment.
11. Prepare radioactive sources for brachytherapy procedures.
12. Assist in development of beam calibration techniques.
13. Develop new dosimetry procedures.
14. Support of treatment planning computer.
15. Assist in specification, ordering and commissioning radio therapeutic equipment.
16. Patient treatment planning and dosimetry.
17. Shielding calculations, site planning and radiation safety for installation of new radiotherapy equipment.
18. Dosimetry training.
19. Assures appropriate credentialing of equipment is maintained with state, federal, and certifying agencies.
20. Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
M.S. in Medical Physics.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics (ABR or ABMP).
Certification in the State of Texas.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience required.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Effective oral and written communication with team members.
Ability to identify and solve dosimetry problems in a clinical setting.
Knowledge of nuclear instrumentation, radiation monitors, dosimetry equipment and automatic scanning systems.
Knowledge of treatment planning computer operations.
Knowledge of treatment planning, simulation and treatment techniques.
Mold room experience for construction of treatment aids and beam modifying devices.
Ability to communicate principles of radiotherapy physics to Radiation Oncologists and technologists.
