This is an all Elekta environment using Mosaiq, CMS and Nucletron Oncentra for HDR.
Qualifications:
• Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics by the American Board of Radiology or equivalent.
• 5+ years experience in relevant healthcare operations and prior leadership experience.
• Considerable experience with appropriate patient population in the area of responsibility.
• Must possess knowledge of computer programming, advance treatment planning and quality control procedures. Familiar with laws and regulation governing the use of radiation in medicine.
• Demonstrates flexibility in responding to the needs of multiple constituencies with a service-oriented philosophy. Must also possess demonstrated leadership skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Requires strong working knowledge of clinical area or areas of responsibility.
Duties will include:
• Perform duties necessary to obtain licensing and permits for operation
• Determine technical specifications and perform machine acceptance testing and commissioning for new therapy equipment
• Calibrate external beam treatment machines (LINAC) and radioactive sources used in brachytherapy
• Perform routine quality assurance (QA) testing of radiation therapy equipment, including LINAC, CT simulator, HDR unit in accordance with AAPM and ACR recommendations
• Perform routine QA for IMRT treatment planning, IGRT, HDR brachytherapy in accordance with AAPM and ACR recommendations
• Oversee daily, weekly, and monthly testing and QA in accordance with AAPM and ACR recommendations
• Maintain all state regulations regarding LINAC and QA in accordance with AAPM and ACR recommendations
• Handling brachytherapy procedures (Source ordering calibration inventory, survey, and labeling and exposure rate
• Obtain accreditation for ACR, ABS, and others as determined by management
• Maintain and produce adequate Quality Assurance program for regulatory agencies and officers
• Perform the role and duties of Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)
• Continually audit programs and take action in response to the current needs
• Perform such tests in an accurate and timely fashion
• Ensure accordance with New York State D.O.H. Sanitary Code
• Participate in ensuring accurate doses are delivered
• Perform survey measurements and shielding calculations
• Supervise physicists and dosimetrists
• Check patients’ charts for accuracy and validity of delivered doses
• Approve clinical treatment planning and weekly charts checks
• Produce and verify treatment plans generated with the treatment planning computer and by manual calculations
• Provide leadership and support to members of the department
• Support unit based Performance Improvement activities
• Promote department compliance with policies and procedures regarding electrical safety, hazard identification, waste disposal and standard precautions
• Ensure the safe and proper use of equipment and supplies
• Monitor staff performance, including checking and reviewing personnel monitoring reports
• Routinely conduct staff meetings as related to physics and dosimetry
• Actively participate in the unit based cal program
